Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with an increasing incidence and may lead to various complications if not optimally controlled. In addition to affecting physical health, hypertension may also affect patients’ sleep quality and quality of life. This study aimed to describe sleep quality among patients with hypertension at the Posbindu in Pranti Village, Sidoarjo. This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 45 respondents selected using total sampling. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), which comprises seven components for assessing sleep quality. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented as frequency distributions and percentages. The results showed that the largest age group consisted of respondents aged 55–64 years, totaling 24 respondents (53.3%). Most respondents were female (38; 84.4%), unemployed (28; 62.2%), and had been diagnosed with hypertension for 1–5 years (26; 57.8%). Regarding sleep quality, the majority of respondents were classified as having moderate sleep quality (22; 48.9%), followed by good sleep quality (16; 35.6%) and mild sleep quality (7; 15.6%). Although most respondents had moderate sleep quality, these findings indicate that their sleep quality was not yet optimal. Therefore, efforts to improve sleep quality are needed as part of comprehensive hypertension management.
