Abstract

Basic ECG interpretation training is an essential part of nursing education to support clinical skills in emergency and cardiovascular health. The ability to understand ECGs, both normal and coronary heart disease, is essential for early recognition of patient conditions. This study aims to describe the ability of fifth-semester respondents to interpret normal ECGs and coronary heart disease in the Diploma III Nursing Study Program in Sidoarjo. This study used a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. A total sampling technique was used for 45 respondents. The research instrument was an ECG interpretation questionnaire covering both normal ECGs and coronary heart disease. The results showed that 29 respondents (64.4%) were able to correctly interpret normal ECGs, while 16 respondents (35.6%) made errors. Regarding the interpretation of coronary heart disease ECGs, 15 respondents (33.3%) answered correctly, while 30 respondents (66.7%) were unable to correctly identify the ECG features. In general, respondents' ability to interpret normal ECGs was quite good, but their understanding of coronary heart disease ECGs still needs improvement. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate learning and repeat the ECG interpretation material so that respondents can better understand the ECG image and support the achievement of the vision and mission of the Nursing Study Program.
